Making a big trip like this one, we need to live one day at a time. Our mindset is now used to not worrying about the future when some delays are out of our control. It's the most positive way to live; otherwise, we would worry, be frustrated and stressed many times.
When we arrived in Quebec City, we knew we had engine problems. It was leaking eventhough Frank was making his oil changes at regular intervals - every 100 hours. We hired a boat engine mechanic - Denis - whose business is all at the marina and the yacht club. He worked on truck engines for 20 years, then changed to boat engines for 15-20 years. So he is very knowledgeable on Yanmar engines (ours) and a few other brands. Frank wrote a blog on the subject, so I won't expand on it. As of today, one more part needs to be replaced. It should be here on Monday, installed on Tuesday (July 26).
As we wait, I've had the unpleasant surprise to get covid. It is not really a surprise as covid is rampant here in Quebec. I woke up yesterday with a big headache, fatigue and a bit of deep cough. Also, we just found out that now my parents have it. That's worrisome; they are in their mid-eighties, with health issues. I live with Daniele and Richard but we keep our distance; and I disinfect everything I touch. I also wear gloves when necessary. The silver lining is that they tested negative this morning; and Frank, who spent the weekend with us, had moved back to the boat before I infect him. I'll suggest to my parents to move in with them, this way I could take care of them and the move decreases the risk of Daniele and Richard to get it. We'll see what they say ....
At $100 a day boat slip and $100 an hour mechanic, it makes our Quebec stay more expensive than planned. At least, these delays are in Quebec City - a beautiful, picturesque and lively city. And to boot, with family. So no complaints here.
